Between 6 and 9 October, OpenAI swapped the engine under ChatGPT for everyone from free users upwards, Anthropic launched a small model that costs a tenth of its predecessor's input price, and Claude's priciest plans started coming with monthly API credits. It was a busy four days, and not all of it was headline material.

This issue covers nine dated changes from 5 to 9 October: what changed, who gets it, whether it works in the UK and whether you should care. There is also a diary of the deadlines worth knowing about before mid-November, from a Claude limit reset that lapses to a usage policy that kicks in.
